This Christmas, while listening to various Christmas hymns like “Oh Little Town of Bethlehem”,  “Silent Night”, etc.,  The Holy Spirit  sparked a tiny flash of Light upon me.

It was a tiny flash of His Light which , like that tiny mustard seed, expanded into greater Light:    (Luke 13: 18-19:  “He said, “What is the Kingdom of God like? To what shall I compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and put in his own garden. It grew, and became a large tree, and the birds of the sky lodged in its branches.” ) .   As I thought upon Jesus being born into this Earth as a helpless tiny baby, I was reminded of that tiny insignificant mustard seed-  that represents the Kingdom of God.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, IS that tiny mustard seed, ..  that tiny poor child whose parents were not received as they sought a lodging to give Him birth.    They had to resort to a livestock stable for shelter and a feeding trough to lay the king of all Kings.   In Luke 2:52, we read, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man”.   Like that tiny mustard seed that grows into a huge tree for birds to nest.,  the Holy Spirit’s anointing in Jesus  affected everyone open to His Light, starting in Israel, and then all the outlying countries ., and ultimately the entire Earth.    He Who had no place to lay His head.,  is that Tree of Life – that grew from that mustard seed offering its branches as lodging and protection for the rest of Creation.

And just as that tiny mustard seed,   Jesus is that Light that came into this World.. a tiny flash of Light like the star the wise men followed in the night sky.  a tiny flash of light that if received in one’s heart,  spreads throughout one’s entire being like that sprouted mustard seed, until one is immersed in His Light.      As the Kingdom of God starts from a tiny mustard seed.

God begins with the tiniest of things.. the lowliest and smallest, and builds His Kingdom on what is practically invisible..    just like that tiny mustard seed,  that little ray of light and that tiny baby laying in a feeding trough.
